In his artwork, Gavin de Lint explores the power embedded in styles, mediums and subject matters that are widely
considered kitsch or low art. Rather than attempting to defy these cultural notions, he works with them, expanding
their parameters. This can take the form of revising the list of appropriate subject matter for a black velvet painting
to creating event posters for mundane or fictional events to using a B movie poster style to render a wedding portrait.
Gavin was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He graduated from the University of Regina in 1993
with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction, majoring in drawing and minoring in film. He continued his education by
accepting a scholarship from the Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary, Alberta, where he made his first short film,
The Tale of the Steamin' Green Log. Upon completion of the film, he returned to Regina where he began his career
as a graphic artist. Since 1995, he has made his living in the arts: animating for television; designing images for t-shirts;
creating content for the internet and working as a fine artist.
He lives with the 2 loves of his life: his wife Marissa and his son Jack.
